WHAT INDIA SHOULD LOOK LIKE IDEALLY

POST INDEPENDENCE (1947)

India Scene Post Independence (After 1947)

When India became independent on 15 August 1947, the country faced massive challenges and then gradually transformed into a major global nation.

 Immediate Situation in 1947

1. Partition Trauma

  • British India was divided into India and Pakistan
  • Huge communal violence
  • Around 10–15 million people displaced
  • Hundreds of thousands killed (estimates vary)

2. Refugee Crisis

  • Millions migrated across borders
  • Cities like Delhi received massive refugee populations

3. Poverty & Underdevelopment

  • Low literacy
  • Weak industrial base
  • Frequent food shortages
  • Very low per capita income

4. Princely States Integration

  • Over 500 princely states had to join India
  • Major role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and V. P. Menon

so India was standing up first time after lots of struggle ,also there are many diverse culture
within India . At that time In 1950, the approximate exchange rate was:

💵 1 United States Dollar = ₹4.76 Indian Rupees

This rate was largely fixed under the post-war Bretton Woods system and linked through the British pound sterling.

Approx Timeline:

  • 1947 (Independence): ~34–35 crore
  • 1950: ~37 crore
  • 1951 Census: 36.1 crore officially recorded
Today in 2026 our population ranks 1 in entire world but by back then we have only 34 to 36 crore .  Ideally Indian administration should focus on population control back then in 1950s ,1960s because this population is the only game India lack behind in major things like economy, per capita income , accumulations of resources per person  etc.

🌟 Likely Advantages

1. Higher Per Capita Wealth

Same economy divided among fewer people = much higher income per person.

  • More disposable income
  • Better living standards
  • Lower pressure on wages

2. Less Crowding

  • Less traffic in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru
  • Less strain on trains, buses, roads
  • Easier urban planning

3. Better Public Services Per Person

Government spending spread across fewer citizens:

  • Better schools
  • Better hospitals
  • More housing availability

4. Lower Environmental Stress

  • Less groundwater depletion
  • Less pollution
  • Less waste generation

5. More Jobs Per Worker (Potentially)

If economy still strong, labor supply lower → wages can rise.

Most Realistic Verdict

India with 45–55 crore people could have had significantly better per-person quality of life, but probably less total economic scale and global weight.
